2. Agnetta Riesz-Noothoven van Goor (1875-1948)

Eerste vrouwelijke gemeenteraadslid in Gouda

Agnetta Elizabeth Hendrika Noothoven van Goor werd in 1875 in Gouda geboren. Haar grootvader, Gerrit Noothoven van Goor, had een boekhandel en drukkerij aan de Kleiweg opgezet.Haar vader Jacob Meinard van Goor nam samen met zijn broer Dirk Lullius het bedrijf over en zij specialiseerden zich in schoolboeken en waren uitgever van de dikke Kramers-woordenboeken.
Zij trouwde op 5 mei 1898 met Franciscus Gijsbertus Riesz.Haar echtgenoot kwam uit een militaire familie en hij eindigde zijn carrière als kolonel der infanterie. Het echtpaar kreeg twee dochters en twee kleinkinderen.
In Agnetta's overlijdensadvertentie stond "Onze lieve vrouw, moeder, behuwd- en grootmoeder en mijn lieve mevrouw".

In 1919 werd de wet voor het algemene kiesrecht (wet-Marchant) aangenomen en kregen de Nederlandse vrouwen actief stemrecht. Vrouwen en mannen mochten bij verkiezingen stemmen en verkozen konden worden.
Gezien haar achtergrond is het niet zo verwonderlijk dat Agnetta zich bij de Gemeenteraadsverkiezingen in 1923 verkiesbaar stelde en werd gekozen als eerste vrouwelijke raadslid voor de Liberale Vrijheidsbond in Gouda. In de tweede periode zat ze samen met nog een vrouw, Jacobina van Dantzig-Melles voor de SDAP, in de gemeenteraad. Agnetta zat in de commissie van toezicht op het Gemeentelijk Woningbedrijf Gouda.

In 1935 stelde ze zich opnieuw kandidaat op plek vijf van een gezamenlijke lijst met de Vrijzinnig Democraten, maar ze werd niet herkozen.

Agnetta Elizabeth Hendrika Noothoven van Goor was born in Gouda in 1875. Her grandfather, Gerrit Noothoven van Goor had started a bookstore and a printing house at the Kleiweg. Her father Jacob Meinard van Goor, together with his brother Dirk Lullius, took over the business and they specialized in school books and were also editors of the thick Kramers-dictionaries. On May 5, 1898 Agnetta married Franciscus Gijsbertus Riesz. Her husband was from a military family and ended his career as colonel of the Infantry Regiment. The couple had two daughters and 2 grandchildren. In Agnetta's obituary it said: 'Onze lieve vrouw, moeder,behuwd- en grootmoeder en mijn lieve mevrouw' (Our beloved wife, mother, mother-in-law and grandmother and my dear mistress).

In 1919 the law for universal suffrage was passed and women in the Netherlands got active suffrage (wet-Marchant). The result was that women and men were not only allowed to vote at elections but could also be elected themselves. Given her background one could not be surprised that Agnetta stood for election at the Municipal Elections of 1923 and was elected as first female councilor of the Liberal Freedom Union in Gouda. In her second term there was another woman with her in the council, Jacobina van Dantzig-Melles for the SDAP.

Agnetta also sat on the supervisory committee for the Municipal Housing Company Gouda. 

In 1935 she applied again as candidate in the fifth place of a collective list with the Liberal Democrats, but she was not re-elected .
